Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Vasyl **********. I am a retired military officer, former UN Peacekeeper and experienced administrative assistant, information collector and analyser, English, Russian and Ukrainian language teacher, translator, editor, proof-reader and material writer.

I live in Odesa , Ukraine, and I'm a Ukrainian passport holder.

I read your advertisement in Internet and was wondering if I could apply for your Language Specialist -Ukrainian position.

I have a full time University Degree in Foreign Languages (English, German), a Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA), a London Metropolitan University Certificate in Translation of Legal Documents, and I have been working with analysis, management, administration and language issues for more than 30 years implementing and teaching UN peacekeeping and conflict settlement principles in former Yugoslavia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mozambique, Rwanda and Burundi, teaching English for the military and peacekeepers, translating, interpreting, editing, proofreading and writing materials.

I can translate in writing, interpret consequently and simultaneously from English, Russian and Ukrainian into Ukrainian, Russian and English. I can also read and translate with a dictionary some materials from Rumanian.

I worked for European Uninon Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) as an administrative assistant/interpreter for almost 12 years and I also acted as EUBAM Senior Interpreter/Coordinator for 9 months.

I also have a reliable experience in analysing political, economic and military situations in different parts of the world, planning and implementing different inter-agency and international cooperation events, negotiating disputes with cooperating and conflicting parties, liaising in negotiation process, writing evaluation reports, managing meetings and conferences.

Additionally, I have served for 17 years as a psychological warfare officer and foreign relations officer in the Armed Forces of former USSR and then of Ukraine, I have a reliable experience of successful peacekeeping as a UN Mission Commander in the Safety Zone Zepa (UNPROFOR, Bosnia and Herzegovina 1993-1994), and I have co-authored a military English resource book together with writers from Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia within the Peacekeeping English Project (PEP). The book was launched in April 2005 in Prague .
