Profile
To be sure, I love teaching and coaching in the classroom or on the practice pitch.
I am a lifelong learner and Teacher of many subjects. My subject areas of instruction include Maths, History, Geography, English, and Computer Science. I still recall overcoming dyslexia and finding Maths impossible to learn in high school. I know what it is like for a student to give up. Yet I never give up on a student. Our job is to try to find a way to connect, help the learner adapt and overcome.
I find teaching rewarding on a variety of levels. To be honest, I have travelled to many countries and performed many jobs. Yet no occupation has rewarded me with learning and perseverance as teaching kids. I have taught *********** in the US and have coached various sports such as football, wrestling, tennis, basketball as well as sponsoring school clubs such as Forensics (Debate), Student Council, and Model U.N. I have also been a Department Head at both a middle school and a college. I also served as an Assistant Principal one year in North Carolina.
I believe each child can learn and like to think a better teacher is even a better facilitator of cooperative learning. In Maths, this is difficult in the beginning of the year, but works after the students are in groups which assist them with peer tutoring and mentoring. However, a teacher who wants the students to master and understand the material, should be available both before and after school to help those kids who are not able to follow the curriculum enough to pass their exams. I am new to the UK Curriculum but am taking courses online to prepare me for the various differences from the Common Core Curriculum in the US.
A Teacher should love or enjoy what they do. I find it so rewarding I want to continue my journey of learning and teaching and encourage my students to do so as well.
